Contemplative Christmas in the village centre of Loschwitz

For the 25th time, the Elbhangfest Christmas Market invites visitors from near and far to enjoy Advent at Körnerplatz. On Saturday, 2 December, the Christmas market is traditionally opened with Elbhang Father Christmas and the cutting of stollen by Kaffee Wippler. The opening will be musically accompanied by the Elbhang Trombone Choir.

This romantic Christmas market in the style of Ludwig Richter is a popular insider tip. Until 17 December 2023, it will delight its guests with its cosy charm, the aroma of mulled wine and roast apple and all kinds of arts and crafts. During a cosy Advent stroll, visitors can buy traditional wooden angels, ceramics, sheep’s wool products, hand-rolled candles, knitted and felted fashions, as well as a wide variety of jewellery designs made of metal, natural stones, buttons and small found objects.

All kinds of decorative and useful items are lined up along Friedrich-Wieck-Strasse. Food and drink will also be provided with warm flatbread, crepes and grilled sausages. Thanks to the support of the Loschwitz municipal district, visitors can look forward to new mulled wine cups in which the children’s punch or apple mulled wine will taste even better.

This year, too, visitors can experience a colourful Christmas live programme on each day. On the opening weekend, the small choir Lo COCUT will present Christmas carols from the south of France (Saturday, 6 p.m.), Advent vespers will be celebrated in the Loschwitz church with the Elbhangposaunenchor under the direction of cantor Tobias braun (Saturday, 6 p.m.), Conni Island will heat things up with jazzy sounds (Sunday, 4 p.m.) and Soul Manufaktur will round off the Sunday evening with heart-warming choral music (Sunday, 6 p.m.).

During the two market weeks, children from the Fidelio-F.-Finke-Straße day-care centre (Wednesday 6 and 13 December, 3 p.m. each day) and various musicians, bands and choirs will be among the performers. This year, the Niederpoyritzer Puppet Theatre is back with “Die Weihnachtsgans Auguste” (18 December / 4 pm in the community room). As a traditional finale, the Kidney Tables invite you to a concert.
